The Curriculum Developer(s) will support the programmatic efforts of Digi-Bridge by designing high quality, engaging content and curriculum materials. Most materials will be developed for Digi-Bridge K–2, 3–5, and 6–8 STEAMLab programs but other projects might be assigned as needed.
This is a contract position and the number of hours will depend on projects assigned. On average a curriculum takes 20–30 hours to develop from start to finish. Scope and workload will depend on the project and will be discussed ahead of time with the School Programs Director.
This position can be remote but some instances might require in-person attendances for observations, training, etc. This contract worker reports to the School Programs Director.
Digi-Bridge STEAMLab
STEAMLab is a once a week afterschool program broken into 3 different grade groups: K–2, 3–5, 6–8.
- K–2 and 3–5 STEAMLab is taught by school teachers and focuses on building, exploring, and tinkering with a focus on hands-on, inquiry based learning. Each STEAMLab series has 5 unique classes under a single curriculum theme.
- 6–8 STEAMLab is co-taught by a subject matter expert or industry professional and teacher and is delivered in 7 content module blocks. All modules culminate with a real world deliverable.
Curriculum Design
Digi-Bridge develops its own curriculum called “Digi-Bins” to be implemented across program sites. We create and update curriculum based on student interest, science standards, industry expertise, and feedback. Current topics of curriculum range from robotics, 3D designing and printing, body systems, aerospace, physical science and more.
Elements of curriculum
- Must provide hands-on experiences
- Must follow constructionist approach centered on creating and testing ideas
- Must fit timing requirements of each STEAMLab grade band
- Incorporate Digi-Bridge durable skills, as defined by organizational research based framework
- Align to relevant science and computational thinking standard
- Include clear, teacher-ready facilitation materials and resources
Major Responsibilities
- Instructional Design and Curriculum Development
- Lead the development of new Digi-Bin curriculums (topics to be chosen by Digi-Bridge staff) from start to finish with the inclusion of the development of all facilitation materials, supply lists, and teaching notes.
- Attend check-in meetings at kick-off, 20 percent, and 80 percent design completion to ensure alignment with the School Programs Director.
- Provide training to Digi-Bridge staff on new curriculums to ensure comprehension.
- Support budget management for materials to ensure we are staying within constraints.
- Develop content and assessments that align with 21st Century and Computational Thinking standards while using acceptable curriculum pedagogical practices.
- Review curriculum feedback evaluations from teachers and make recommendations regarding revisions.
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to ensure curriculum materials list are created and updated.
This list of responsibilities may be modified based on each curriculum.
Experience and Qualifications We Are Looking For
- Curriculum development or instructional design experience, ideally in STEM and experiential learning
- Knowledge of pedagogy and curriculum design
- Education background or teaching experience
- Knowledge of or experience with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools or a similar district
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently while actively seeking and applying feedback
- Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate

Compensation and Benefits
This is a contract position at the rate of $50 per hour. We will be hiring multiple curriculum developers based on the different curriculum themes.
