Lowe’s, Collins Aerospace and Digi-Bridge Partner to Bring Summer STEAM Experiences to 1,450 Students in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 8, 2020) — Next week Digi-Bridge will distribute 1,450 educational summer STEAM experience kits to scholars in partnership with Lowe’s and Collins Aerospace.

Lowe’s is sponsoring 750 kits to be distributed through Digi-Bridge’s CMS Title 1 school partners. Collins is sponsoring 700 kits to be distributed by Freedom School Partners through their FSP 2020 R.E.S.P.O.N.S.E. Program neighborhood sites they are serving this summer.

The summer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math)  Kits are expertly crafted and curated by highly-qualified CMS teachers. Each shoebox-sized kit will contain: fizzy bag chemistry experiment with art result; blowing up a balloon with chemistry; germinate a seed and grow a herb (CMS school kits); twirly copter, aeronautics project (Freedom School Partners kits); dominoes game with additional math and engineering challenges; LEGOs, including pictionary cards and a logarithm strategy game; face masks donated by Novant Health and all activity instructions provided in both English and Spanish.

“The support from both Lowe’s and Collins Aerospace has made it possible to have an impact on 1,450 scholars in Charlotte this summer,” said Digi-Bridge CEO Alyssa Sharpe. “In what has been a very challenging year for students and educators, we are so encouraged that these students and their families will have an opportunity to continue STEAM learning through the summer.”

Digi-Bridge relies on partnerships to provide STEAM opportunities to as many students as possible.

“We are thrilled to partner with Lowe’s and Digi-Bridge to distribute these at-home STEAM kits to help fill the curiosity and creative void many kids are currently experiencing,” said Carrie Reeder, Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Collins Aerospace. “Increased youth engagement in STEAM activities is a central goal of Collins and has the power to build confidence, inspire the next generation of leadership and strengthen our communities.”

On Thursday, June 9, volunteers from Lowe’s will join Digi-Bridge staff from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Camp North End to assemble the 1,450 kits for distribution the following week.

Media opportunities may be available by request at CMS and/or Freedom School Partners locations. Please inquire for details.
