Digi-Bridge, Bank of America Bring Cyber Security Awareness to STEAMLab Courses

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 12, 2021) — This October, as part of Cyber Security Awareness month, Digi-Bridge STEAMLab scholars will learn all about cyber security and different ways to stay safe in today’s digital world through a partnership with Bank of America.

As our society remains dependent on technology to accomplish many of our daily activities, it’s so important to make sure people of all ages understand best practices to increase cyber security. Digi-Bridge will work with scholars to adopt this year’s theme: “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.”

Digi-Bridge, with assistance from cyber professionals from Bank of America, has developed a curriculum to cover four very important topics that will be taught to 400 students in 11 of our CMS partner schools. Additionally, Bank of America professionals will virtually attend STEAMLab sessions to share more about their critical professions.

Each week, students will focus on the following:

  • Passwords: Learning what makes a strong password and understanding the importance of multi-factor authentication
  • Phishing and malware: Learning how to quickly identify scams and avoid downloading malware
  • Networks: Exploring how the internet works and learning about networks by studying transportation systems
  • Hacking: Learning why and how hackers exist and how to avoid making common cyber security mistakes

“Students today are digital natives, with unparalleled access to information,” said Craig Froelich, Bank of America’s chief information security officer. “This access can make them vulnerable to cyber criminals, but young people are often savvier than many adults when it comes to identifying scams and fraudsters. Cyber awareness education bolsters the ability of people of all ages to safely navigate the digital world.”

As part of the partnership with Digi-Bridge, Bank of America may use the Cyber Security Awareness Month curriculum for future partnerships.

“Cyber security is a fast-paced, growing industry and we are thrilled to connect our students with opportunities to learn more about its role in the digital world,” says Alyssa Sharpe, Digi-Bridge CEO, “It is an honor to partner with Bank of America to pair hands-on, engaging curriculum with access to professionals and real world relevance. We know our students are the future cyber security workforce and it’s important to start exposure early and often.”
