How We Spent Our Summer Staycation
This summer looked a bit different for Digi-Bridge, but we found ways to provide quality STEAM experiences for K-8 scholars and will continue to do so throughout the year.
In addition to our distribution of summer #STEAMKits, we co-hosted SHECanCode: Coding Trifecta for Girls in partnership with Dottie Rose Foundation and Code Ninjas: Ballantyne. For three weeks, scholars were treated to hands-on coding, robotics, 3D printing activities and so much more.
Digi-Bridge’s FFS Coordinator Jackie Royce, Dr. Sharon Jones, Founder Dottie Rose Foundation, Jillian Klingberg, Executive Director Dottie Rose Foundation and Anjali Dighe, Center Director, Code Ninjas Ballantyne created this unique experience for middle-school girls.
SHEcanCode summer camp gave nine female middle school scholars an opportunity for three consecutive weeks of fun, girl-power bonding, all while learning robotics, 3D printing, drones, art & tech and coding in JavaScript.
“Fostering a love and passion for STEAM in teenage girls will help to close the gender gap in the science and tech industries,” Royce said.
Girls on the Run Greater Charlotte hosted camps this summer and we were lucky enough to spend an afternoon with scholars at Queens University. Our participation in this camp was made possible thanks to funding from United Way of Central Carolinas and Foundation For The Carolinas as part of their Covid-19 Response Fund.
Digi-Bridge also spent time with scholars through Charlotte Freedom School Partners at their Fun Friday event at the Independence Regional Library. Several scholars stopped by the Digi-Bridge table to create “elephant toothpaste” as a safe, hands-on science experiment.
