The Year Ahead
Dear Friends of Digi-Bridge,
Today begins the 2019-2020 school year for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools which includes many of our students, parents, teachers, administrators, and partner organizations. As a former teacher and administrator, I remember the mixture of anticipation, excitement, and some worry I felt before greeting my students on that very first day. While I am 26 days into serving as the CEO of Digi-Bridge, today feels like day one.
As we kick off the 2019-2020 academic year, I think about the amazing programs and goals this organization will work to realize including:
- Five #STEAMSaturdays school sites
- Five competition programming and robotics clubs in partnership with CMS’s Career and Technical Education Department
- Five #STEAMSaturday community sites
- Five community events including Family Code-Ins and Daddy Daughter Code-Ins
This year we will welcome new funding partners, enhanced volunteering opportunities, new Digi-Bin curriculum co-created with corporations specific to skills needed in today’s workforce, and opportunities for multi-generational skill building in STEAM subjects.
So today, on this first day of school, I still feel anticipation, excitement and some worry like I have in the past but the feeling that outweighs them all is appreciation. I am deeply appreciative of our Digi-Bridge community — to our students that show up eager to learn, to our parents that trust our care and knowledge, to our teachers that give everything to serve their students, and to our donors who support our work deeply.
Let’s go to school!
Alyssa
